SLAB is excited to be attending the Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference, and we cannot wait to meet our former and future contributors!
March 7-10, the SLAB Staff will be in Tampa, Florida with a booth set up at the AWP bookfair. We’ll be at booth #1705 with lots of goodies to share. We’ll be selling SLAB T-shirts, keychains, buttons, our current issue #12, back issues, and Vend-o-Rama boxes. If you are a past SLAB contributor, be sure to come visit the staff at our booth, take a photo with us, and get a free issue of SLAB!
Throughout our time at the conference, the SLAB staff will be posting periodically on Twitter (@SLABLitMag) to keep up with the goings-on at the book fair using the hashtag #AWP18. Feel free to check out all our social media to keep up with SLAB’s AWP experience.
If you are at the conference and would like to get even more involved in SLAB, then keep an eye out for our geodes that will be hidden around the bookfair for you to find! This AWP scavenger hunt is in collaboration with other journals, so conference attendees will be able to interact with a variety of different publications from all around the country. You can find clues on the locations of the geodes at our booth and on our social media accounts with the hashtag #SLABGeodeCaching. If you find a geode, bring it to the SLAB table to crack it open and claim your free subscription!
Along with the geo-caching scavenger hunt, SLAB will also have Vend-o-Rama boxes and prompts for visitors to fill out and earn a chance to win free goodies! Vend-o-Rama is a fun way for SLAB to get writers to put their pen to paper. At our home at Slippery Rock University, SLAB has a Vend-o-Rama machine that dispenses short works of writing at our student center. We enjoy sharing works of writing and hope it will inspire others to pass along the pen. Come visit us at bookfair booth #1705 to get a prompt, read student writing, and chat with the SLAB staff.
Although AWP only lasts a few days, the SLAB staff really looks forward to the new experiences and connections that the conference provides. Every year we attend, we enjoy sharing our literary magazine with fellow writers, editors, and educators. We hope to see you there!
